MEMBERSHIP FAQ

 

How do I Join BA-ABSW Chapter? 

A person of Black African Ancestry can join the organization as an individual member by submitting an email of interest to baabsw@gmail.com. You will be connected with the Chapter's Membership Secretary who will respond to your request. 



How much are membership dues?

BA-ABSW 2021 dues are as follows:  Regular - $110; Seniors - (62 years old or older) - $85; Student (Full Time) - $40. 

Membership applications are accepted throughout the calendar year; however they expire at the end of each year, no matter when dues are paid. 



What do I get for becoming a member?

Your membership includes membership with the Bay Area  Association of Black Social Workers. You will also receive the benefits of networking and support with other Black Social Workers who have expertise in a variety of disciplines.  You will also receive discounts on registration fees for Local, Regional and National conferences, symposiums and trainings.  The Chapter also have members familiar with licensing and graduate programs and can provide mentoring in each regard.  Communications regarding employment opportunities, trainings, and community based events are emailed to members on a regular basis. 



What are the benefits for students?

Students enjoy the same benefits as regular members with some additional perks like being connected with a member working or retired from your field of study and a National office dedicated specifically to student needs through the NABSW's Office of Student Affairs, and scholarship opportunities! 


How often does BA-ABSW meet?

Chapter meetings are held every 3rd Saturday from 2-4pm (July and August Break). 

Prospective Members are welcome to attend our Chapter meetings as a non-member up to two (2) visits if they meet the requirements of the Inclusion Policy.  

Forums, Symposiums and Conferences may be held on a different schedule.   



How does BA-ABSW operate/function?

The  BA-ABSW adheres to the National Constitution and the Chapter Constitution and Bylaws. The Executive Committee oversees and approves major decisions that affect the Chapter. BA-ABSW is a self-determining, totally self-supporting, volunteer organization.
